| Three Trapped Tigers |

Just a quick post to say: I saw Three Trapped Tigers last night, and they were one of the best bands I've ever seen. They sounded like some kind of Lightning Bolt/Errors/Squarepusher/Tera Melos mash-up band. The drummer is absolutely incredible. |

There was just a young child in Blackwell's that was continually saying either "Itch" in a New Zealand accent or "Ouch" in a really posh accent. I'm plumping for the latter as it fits with my theory that babies cry because they are in a constant state of utter pain and bewilderment.
Heather and I have just finished watching the first series of Deadwood. It's pretty good. Essentially it's a drama in a Western/Cowboys & Indians/Gold Rush kind of setting, but with the added bonus that the three most frequently used words are "Fuck", "Cunt" and "Cocksucker" (and their variations). I'm not usually a Westerns kind of guy, but Timothy Oliphant (ha! Oliphant!) and Ian McShane are great in it. It has a slow-burning quality to it, but knows exactly when to put the foot it with some crushing brutality.
I looked at the Film Festival & Fringe programmes recently, it seems like I'll be watching the same kind of things I always do - Existential/metaphysical/psychological Lynchian stuff, Mirrorball, Lee, Herring, Munnery, Pappy's Fun Club, Louis CK, Greg Fleet etc, hopefully with a smattering of random stuff as well. Oh and I need to go on the 9th to get Armando Iannucci Charm Offensive tickets.
Should I go and work at Rock Ness this weekend? Should I go for sushi or curry for my birthday? Should Eunoia play the gig on 28th July even though we're already playing on 30th? Should I take my extra 2 hours off on Monday morning or afternoon? Should I re-add the official Scrabble application to Facebook? Should I download the second series of Deadwood or the fourth series of House? Should I buy a ticket for the 'Cast of TMWRNJ' gig in London in November today? Should I watch 'Taking Liberties' or will it make me too angry? Should I be getting excited about MBV already? Should I go and see my Dad nearer Father's Day or nearer his birthday? Should I pick a nation to support at Euro 2008? Should I make an electronica compilation for my next Blackwell mixtape swap? Should I make a concerted effort to recover the stuff off my old hard drive even if the best thing that's on it is a load of stupid QBASIC games I made when I was about 12? Should I play guitar in a Mansun covers band (seriously)? Should we keep that Reich-esque piano bit in even though it is shoddily played because I came up with it on the spot? Should I even a little bit genuinely think about going to Supersonic festival in Birmingham? Should I "shut the fuck up you cocksucking cunt"? |

Ok, so two posts in 9 months. Am I really going to bother? Here's some things that are happening:
- Poverty:
Ali's latter half of february recipe list.
Dish 1: Corn Extravaganza
Take a bowl, decant some cornflakes from a 92p box of such from Co-op, sprinkle some sugar, add a dash of milk, sprinkle some more sugar, serve.
Sugar optional. Milk optional.
Bowl optional.
Dish 2: It's A Bit Like Risotto!
Cook some rice, add some stock and possibly some soy sauce. Serve.
Stock not optional.
Dish 3: Pig Meat And Pressed Cow-milk Curd Heated Sandwich With Norwich Condiment.
It's a fucking cheese, ham and mustard toastie.
- Love:
Premature terminology, but I've met a girl I like a hell of a lot. There are wilting rose bushes to be traversed. Slow progress is fine.
- Bands:
Good amount of eunoia gigs, plans to record, interest from radio people.
Also small steps towards a RUSSIA record.
- A Dream:
James May of Top Gear is challenged by his colleagues to turn a cat into a dragon.
- Discoveries:
Plan B magazine, reminiscent of Careless Talk Costs Lives. The films of Julio Medem. Dirty Projectors, the most coherent mix of loads of styles of music I've ever heard. Amazing. Fucking odd. "What I See" is a fairly representative, good thing to listen to first. David Lynch plays Gordon Cole in Twin Peaks. How did I not know this? William Gaddis. Apparently influenced David Foster Wallace. Getting Hooked.
- Technological Irritation:
My laptop only recognised a power lead was there if it was delicately inserted about an eighth of the way into the socket, and even then it fucked up. I got pissed off, threw the laptop about a bit, and when that didn't solve it I just absolutely hammered the lead in as hard as I could. It now works. I wish I hadn't put blu-tac inside it though.
See you in a year, if trends continue. |

Oh the irony; that a stack of boxes containing stock for a food festival stall should prevent me from retrieving an errant purple Basset's Softfruit.
Yeah, that's right. 14 weeks with no posts, and I return with that.
I am excited about seeing Stewart Lee tonight! |
